Chloe and Sophie Take on London with Heart Radio

On Wednesday 1st October, two of the young people we support at Stepping Stones DS, Chloe and Sophie, had the most incredible adventure in London. Thanks to Global’s Make Some Noise,  the girls were invited to Global Radio’s Leicester Square studios to take part in a very special pre-recorded show.

Chloe and Sophie, along with their parents Katharine and Sarah, began their journey travelling by train into the heart of London. Then they hopped into a famous black cab to reach the studios. Both girls were buzzing with excitement as they arrived at Global’s studios, ready to step into the world of radio with Heart Radio.

Meeting the Stars at Global

Chloe and Sophie were welcomed by Jamie Theakston, one of Heart’s most popular presenters, who made them feel right at home. And they chatted to producers Pippa and Pete before their interview with Jamie.

Then, the Stepping Stones DS team had a tour of some of the other Global Radio Stations, and said hello to Jordan North and Sian Welby from Capital Breakfast.

To top it off, they even met Yungblud, who came to say hello on his way into the Capital studio, a moment they’ll never forget!

There were lots of laughs, smiles, and of course plenty of selfies throughout the day.

The Support of Global’s Make Some Noise

Our invitation to Heart Radio was part of our ongoing relationship with Global’s Make Some Noise who support vital projects delivered by small charities in local communities across the UK.

By shining a spotlight on small charities, they make a big difference to so many lives.

We’re proud to be one of the charities they support. Their funding helps us deliver our Prime Acrobatics sessions, our Stopgap Dance classes, and our Tennis classes. Our physical development programme gives children and young people with Down syndrome the chance to develop strength, coordination, balance, and confidence in a safe and supportive environment.

These sessions are not only fun but also vital for physical development and wellbeing. Without Global’s Make Some Noise, opportunities like these simply wouldn’t be possible, so we’re incredibly grateful for their continued support.

Sophie and Chloe told Jamie how much they love their acrobatics classes. And Sarah and Katharine also shared how the support from SSDS extends outside of the sporting activities. They explained how parents are so grateful to be accessing educational services, social opportunities, and family wellbeing services too.  At our “heart”, we are a family of families. We are so grateful that the Global team is part of that family too.

Taking the Day in their Stride

At Stepping Stones DS, we know that opportunities like this can mean the world to young people with Down syndrome. Taking on a big day out in London, with all the travel, new experiences, and excitement, is no small feat, but Chloe and Sophie took it in their stride. Their confidence, joy, and resilience shone through, and we couldn’t be more proud.

Tune in to Hear Chloe and Sophie on Heart Breakfast

The highlight of the trip was taking part in a pre-recorded Heart Breakfast show, which will be broadcast on Monday 6th October between 7–8am. We’d love for as many people as possible to tune in and hear Chloe and Sophie share their special moment on air.

A huge thank you to Jamie, and everyone at Heart and Global for such an amazing day.
