What we do

Our aim at Stepping Stones DS is to provide a holistic range of services for families, all designed to empower children and young people with Down syndrome to reach their fulfil their potential!

Building Confidence, Connection & Lifelong Skills

We provide tailored support for every step of the journey, from birth to 25, helping children and young people with Down syndrome and their families thrive.

For our youngest members, Early Development Groups build the foundations of learning and play, while Communication Groups support young adults in developing confidence and social skills. Social events and activities bring everyone together, fostering connection and a sense of belonging across all ages.

Our educational programmes help children build key skills in literacy, numeracy, and everyday life, giving them the confidence to succeed at school and beyond.

Physical activities promote health, mobility, and coordination, while our social and emotional support helps young people develop resilience, self-esteem, and lasting friendships. Together, our services make a meaningful difference at every stage of development.

The Support We Offer

We tailor our wide range of support to the individual needs of each child, family, and the professionals in their lives. Our activities focus on education, physical development, social skills, and family wellbeing – building confidence, connection and lifelong skills.

Through Early Development Groups, Communication Groups, and school outreach, we build key skills, support inclusion, and help children thrive. We work closely with families, schools, and professionals so every child has the best chance to reach their potential.

Our social activities provide safe, welcoming spaces for children and young people to connect, share experiences, and make friends. They also give families the chance to support one another, building a strong sense of community while navigating the joys and challenges of raising a child with Down syndrome.

Our tennis, dance, and acrobatics sessions support health, movement, and coordination. These fun activities also build confidence and independence, giving children the chance to learn new skills in an enjoyable and supportive environment.

Through Connect Sessions, our Family Advisory Service, and other programmes, we provide parents and educators with the knowledge, guidance, and tools to support children with Down syndrome. These sessions also help build confidence, share experiences, and foster a caring community.
