Family & Well-Being Services
Family Advisory Service
For all age ranges
The Stepping Stones DS Family Advice Service, led by Vik Ralfs, provides personalised one-to-one guidance for families of children with Down syndrome. It is designed to help parents and carers navigate the many systems and decisions they may face, from education and healthcare to social development. By offering clear information and practical support, the service gives families the tools they need to make informed choices and advocate effectively for their children.
As well as practical guidance, the Family Advice Service also offers reassurance and understanding. It helps families feel less isolated as they deal with complex processes or new experiences, and gives them confidence to move forward. The service plays a vital role in ensuring that children with Down syndrome are given the best possible start in life and every opportunity to achieve their full potential.

SSDS Connect
For all age ranges
Our monthly Connect Sessions are at the heart of our charity and reflect where it all began – as a simple stay & play style coffee morning for families. Just like in those early days, these gatherings bring families together in a warm, welcoming space to share experiences, seek advice, and support one another. They are a place where parents and carers can talk openly with people who truly understand, helping everyone feel less alone on the journey of raising a child or young person with Down syndrome.
These sessions, open to parents and carers of all ages, create a strong “family of families,” where support flows both ways. Parents of older children often share guidance with those just starting out, while newer families bring fresh ideas and energy. This mix of experiences helps build lasting friendships, reassurance, and confidence. Above all, Connect Sessions reflects the caring, community spirit that has been at the heart of SSDS since day one.
